Note: This page is chronological, so the latest news is at the bottom of the page. As Chair for 2024-25, Teresa wanted us to create a traditional Group Quilt, firmly anchored in Reduce, Reuse and Recycle and with almost no environmental impact. A free large bag of lovely silk and velvet fabrics was sourced from Facebook Marketplace and these immediately suggested a crazy quilt, so Teresa cut the fabrics into pieces and assembled them into project bags. Members then created traditional crazy quilt blocks, stitching the pieces onto a foundation of an old cotton sheet and embroidering the seams with some of the designs traditionally used for this layout. The only new materials used in this project have been four colours of pearl cotton thread for the hand embroidery on the blocks. The batting for this quilt is a repurposed traditional wool blanket, sourced from a charity shop. The quilt will be tied and backed with a tie-died old sheet.

At our 6th January meeting, Malvern Quilters began the first stage of assembling this project - cutting sashing strips and preparing the backing sheet for tie-dyeing.
The crazy quilt blocks made and embroidered by members are being assembled into a top. Here is progress as of 4th February 2025. We are on target for tying the quilt at the meeting on 17th February.
