Sit & Sew - Saturday 11th January 2025

Our next Sit & Sew day is on Saturday, 11th January 2025.

Venue: Malvern Victoria Bowling Club, Victoria Park Road, Malvern.
From Victoria Park Road (off Pickersleigh Avenue), go through the car park and follow the single-track road past the new café down to the Bowling Club car park. Don't follow SatNav, as it'll take you to the Morgan factory!

Time: 10am-4pm. Tea & coffee will be provided; bring your own packed lunch. If you can't stay for the full session, feel free to come when you can.

Equipment: whatever you need for your project. Extension leads are essential, an iron and pressing mat are useful.

Activities
  • Teresa will be leading a morning session on seam accuracy and pressing, so if that quarter inch seam is proving elusive, feel free to join in. External participants for this session - £10.
  • Teresa will be doing a name badge session in the afternoon, so if you don't have a name badge, this is a good opportunity to make one.
  • Do your own thing! Sit & Sew Days are relaxed and sociable. Bring along a sewing machine and your current project, take advantage of large tables and someone to help you to baste a quilt sandwich, or bring some hand sewing (binding, Teresa's crazy quilt embroidery), anything you like.
  • Project Linus: I have a large number of printed panels (image below) and would like us to use them to make quilts for Project Linus. The panel is approximately 43" tall x 29" wide, and 28" tall without the top and bottom borders. Several suggestions have already been made for making this a better size for a Project Linus quilt:
    • remove the top & bottom borders and put them along the sides
    • remove top and bottom borders, add a blue strip to the top to extend the sky, add additional fabric to the sides, then put the borders on the sides
    • cut the motifs on the borders apart, add a coordinating fabric between the motifs and reapply the border.
    • I have blankets that we can use for batting, and Malvern Quilters also has some batting earmarked for Project Lius quilts. We have some sheets for backing, so we need your expertise and some thread.
All other suggestions welcome!
